Albania is a mountainous country, with mountains together with highlands occupying about 75% of the country’s surface area, and areas above 1,000 m above sea level occupying nearly 30% of the country. The mountains that rise on Albanian territory are the southern extension of the great Balkan chain of the Dinaric Mountains. To the north rise the North Albanian Mountains called Alpet Shqiptare. Between the Drin and Osum rivers rise the Central Albanian Mountains.

Albania is a country where it is still possible to travel freely in low-travel areas that have not yet been affected by significant developments in civilisation, while still being in the centre of Europe. In recent years, more and more foreign tourists have been visiting the country because of its warm climate, attractive prices and friendly locals. Most of them, however, prefer to relax in seaside resorts, which are beginning to resemble those I am familiar with from highly developed European countries.
